Oh sure, just your run of the mill 70’s era kitchen… but what LURKS behind the peaceful facade?!
For those of you who already noticed the lovely beam I posted earlier… I had the bugman out within an hour to inspect the place. He crawled all around the crawlspace and house, and concluded that the ‘colony’ had been treated years ago and that I was just uncovering their ancient ruins.
In this group of pics, you see their highways on the K drywall and back of the cabinets. And then when that drywall is removed you can see a massive ‘nest’ (or whatever it is) on the BA drywall behind. You can’t see it in that pic, but the nest extends down to AT LEAST the backsplash on the K counter (that is as far as I’ve removed so far).
Nasty little bastards! If that thing had been wriggling, my
probably would have been out the front door.&

Is this a house for yourself, or a flipper ?

Both. Gotta get out of the current high maintenance digs and move into the termite house... after its gutted and put back in order (gotta be in within 6 months).
The engineer and bugman both wriggled through the crawl tapping away. Other than the main beam, they didn't find any "significant" structural damage. However since it will likely have a home inspection when it sells, I'll probably go ahead and replace some of the nibbled joists just to keep from scaring the home inspector. And the main beam obviously.
The K wall pictured is going to get ripped out, so all that lovely nibbling will wind up in the dumpster.jt8

John ,
Where is this ? What state ? Looks like your in for a lot of work .

Mike, its in IL. And yes, lots of work. I burned a week's vacation last week to remove all the wall drywall. I'm gutting it down to the studs and changing the floorplan. Might end up adding a room if the budget holds out.

LOL.. They were actually easy to get off (the tiles). They had mounted them directly on regular drywall and plywood. Tap the back of the drywall with the 4lbs hammer and the tiles just started falling off.
That is a far cry from a 1940's era house with the same dirty pink tile that had them mounted into a cement-like plaster. Needed jackhammer in that case.jt8
