Somebody asked me this today and I didn’t have an answer. Who knows how good ol’ T-1-11 got its name?

Few people understand it. Nobody agrees what it is, how to learn about it, or who's responsible for it. It has never been more important

Somebody asked me this today and I didn't have an answer. Who knows how good ol' T-1-11 got its name?
Well, if it's anything like WD-40 (supposedly), it was the 111th attempt at making textured plywood :-)
I heard it got its name from the vertical lines all in a row like
1 1 1.Maybe its a wives tale but it sound logical.
I had heard texture, 1', 11' spacing.
"Texture" makes sense, but the spacing of the grooves is usually more like 6" or 8". I vote for "111" looking like the grooves, but I don't really know.
Mike
Now that you mention it, I remember t-1-11 that had grooves 1" wide -- and the 11" would be the textured surface, 4 grooves to the 4' panel.
Most similar siding now has 8" spacing, 1/2" grooves, so it would be T-1/2-7 1/2 by the same scheme...
Just doesn't have the same ring to it, does it....
So shouldn't it be "No texture 1 Texture 11"

Texture 1-11, I think it's just a proprietary name given to it at some mill that has entered the vernacular.
