How do I size a recirculating pump? I noticed Grundfos? makes many sizes. I’m using two 1″ – 3/4″ trunk lines that go to each end of the house and two 1/2″ return loops that T into a 3/4″ line in the middle and goes back to the storage tank type heater. Each run is about 30-40′ to the farthest outlet. How do I size it? GPM’s, size of pipe, friction loss? etc. Thanks everyone. Tad

To be totally exact we size for friction loss, gpm, & length of run.
But basicly all you're doing is moving the water just enough to keep it hot at your remote fixtures.
Most houses will use the smallest pump they make, but here is the problem.
you tied two 1/2" pipes into one 3/4" pipe---- now this is normal on my commercial jobs except whenever we tie lines together we install "circut setters" ( balance valve) that way you have even flow between branches.
Without the valves you need to make sure you're pushing enough water so that you force flow down both branches.
You could go with an "E" series variable speed, but that's overkill for a house.
A 1/6 hp would definatly push enough water to get flow for both branches.
