Well now I have yet another request to do a job I’ve not done before. I need to anchor fence posts (yes VINYL) to a concrete patio to enclose the patio. The posts must be anchored to the patio as their is asphalt all around the patio (it’s a parking lot for a bar that wants this fencing).
First, I never installed an inch of vinyl fencing and told the bar owner this and he said it’d be a great learning experience (true).
Second, I have no freaking clue how you would anchor a vinyl fence post in ground let alone on top of concrete, I mean vinyl posts are hollow, right?
Third the owner feels he has the solution. These fence posts are 6x6s so he said we should take 6×6 wood posts, center bore them to some depth, drill into the concrete and use an anchoring adhesive to bond a piece of rebar to the concrete, then coat the rebar with tar (where that came from I have no clue), the slide the wood 6×6 over it and then the 6×6 vinyl fence post over top it and that that should provide a strong fence post support. I dunno, rebar bends when leveraged. Bar patrons could lean on the fence and provide sufficient leverage in my opinion to bend the rebar supports.
Your thoughts and ideas??

Grab ahold of the directions for that particular fence. Several have a steel post that you anchor (I'm familiar with the pour in) then slip the post down over it. See if that's not the case here.

There's an idea, read the directions :) I'll do as you suggest. I am guilty I guess of assuming that those directions wouldn't discuss how to anchor to concrete.
