how good are lesson elec motors
I am looking for a 5hp 1750 compressor motor. What do you think of the leeson electric motors sold by Northern Hydraulics? Is Dayton electric a real company or just a house brand for granger? I have always thought Dayton was a good motor but not sure if Grainger puts it out to bid each year or if there is a Dayton company. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

I run both leeson and dayton motors in my shop (WW and metal working) and never had problems with either. Never crossed my mind that dayton is a plate name for grainger, but can't be sure about it. Another solid name is Baldor, the ones I have are real workhorses (grinding metal, yuk!!)
edit: Dayton Electric Manufacturing Co, Chicago, Ill. I HAD to find out for sure :-)

Both are good stuff... Get farm rated... More bullet proof...
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
Leeson is an industry standard. Just make sure it's the right motor for the job.

That's what I put on my IR compressor 5 yrs ago. Working just fine, including substantial sandblasting.

Thanks for all the info on the lesson motors.
