Source control, ventilation, and filtration are the keys to healthy indoor air quality. Dehumidification is important too.

I just did or had the mason do 2500 red bricks and we used 20 bags of mortar.
As for the sand the minumun load was 8 yards so I have a bunch left. But I think we used about 5 yards.

It seems high to me too. I usually figure 7 bags per 1000 bricks and 3 bags per 100 blocks. For your job, I would get 12 bags of mortar. For each bag of mortar, you need 3 cubic feet of sand. This means you need 36 cu.ft. of sand for twelve bags of mortar--less than a third of that requested by your mason.
Thanks for the help. I will probably us the extra sand in otherways.
just est. a job yesterday. sand is 6yrds. delivered for $135.00
reg. type S mortar per bag is $7.18 -pickup at supply yrd.
8 tons 3/8 to1/2 gravel $125.00 delivered
your mason is within acouple of bags of what I would figure,
he might be accounting for more waste, and it's better
to have to much sand than not enough because of the possablity
of differant color shade which makes the mortar a diff. color also. DW
