This may be a simple question, but how many coats of paint can go on a wall before you start seeing something going wrong? (I’ll let you define “going wrong”)

Again I agree with Frankie. Things can go wrong in one layer if the prep work is faaulty. There are, I think, 17 layers of paint on one wall of my house and it seems to be doing just fine, elsewhere I've stipped 3 layers & started over.
