how many layers of joint compound are really necessary on a standard drywall seam? Being a compulsive DIY-er determined to out-pro the pro’s, I doggedly apply 3 or 4 layers, sanding in between layers, even when the joint looks great with 2. Am I killing myself for no reason? Do particular situations require more layers than others (say, corners vs flat seams)?
