Where are you in these hills? We are in Old Fort, where I-40 starts up the hill.
I'm in Boone.
Almost rode up there this weekend. We were at my sister's house in Linville/Newland (Land Harbor). She is a school teacher in Germany and has a super little getaway that I take care of for her. Unfortunately she only gets to use it a few months a year so family and friends use it and I fix everything and schedule it. Almost went to Lowes since the one in Banner Elk must have closed. There are quite a few NC folks on this forum.
Good deal! I'm in Lowe's way too much. Headin' down to Asheville for a wedding this weekend. Might be doing some work in Weaverville before too long. How long have you been in Old Fort?
My mother was from Old Fort, father from Black Mountain. I was born in Raleigh while Dad was at NCSU on GI Bill (I guess I was one of the first Baby Boomers). We came back to Black Mountain when he graduated. Moved down to Old Fort a few years later. I stayed here through high school and spent ( or mis-spent) two years at NCSU. Got married, went to Army for 20 years, worked in aircraft industry in Wichita, KS for 10 yrs and moved back here because of aging parents in 1997.
We added 1700+ sqft to the old home place that I helped build when I was a kid. We can sit in the Jaccuzi or master bedroom and see the top of Mt. Mitchell. I designed it, acted as GC with help, wife and I did all trim and finish plus a lot of other work.

There's some beautiful farmland down that way, had some friends in Hendersonville some years back. The summers up here are unbeatable. Fall ain't too bad either!
All of it.
Today was - by my count- the twenty second day of decent weather since Jan 1st.
And it rained a little today.
Excellence is its own reward!
3 more drops and I'm going to add a snorkel to the emergency kit.
Sizeing up to be a butt stomper right now. Flash floods over the week end.
Rain gage overflowed here before the flash flood washed the works downstream.
It's currently raining, again. I think I'll switch over to boat building, maybe even Ark buildin'.
We are doing a bout the same down here in the Atlanta area. Visited my sister on Lake Lanier last weekend, there weren't anymore beaches like last summer the water was in the treeline all the way around. Took a day trip to Cullman Alabama same deal over there. Stopped at a couple of lakes to let our Golden Retriever (Henry) get wet. The water was way up on both lakes. At one the sidewalk went straight out into the lake, like it was supposed to or something.
But on a positive note at least I will be painting my house the next two weeks, rain is good for painting, right?
I sure would appreciate you all, sending some, or all of that wet stuff our way. Yesterday was a freak moonson, I counted 9 drops at work, ok, maybe 11, then around 7:00 pm we got all of 5 minutes worth of "rain". Jim J,, Prescott Arizona
I have no idea how much, but it seems like it's rained every 2 or 3 days since April first.
My Uncle still doesn't have his corn in - He's about 30 days behind schedule. He hasn' even started on beans yet. And some of his hay is ready to cut.
Dad got all his beans in, then the ag service came back and sprayed the wrong stuff on 2 of his fields. He doesn't know if the beans will come up or not.
Abstain from wine, women and song. Mostly song.
What the he** is rain? So damn dry here in central Texas that I saw a Mesquite tree chasin' my dog down the road......
