Can't see how the slats are held in place. Are they in mortises? Can you take a picture from the back? Also, can you get a picture of the attachment areas?
If you have the broken-out piece and the slats, and they are relatively intact, just put the slats back in place and glue in the broken-out piece (after trimming any bits that don't let it go back together smoothly. Try to avoid gluing the slats themselves.
If you don't have these pieces, you will have to cobble them, and that depends on your skills, the tools you have, and the quality you wish to achieve.
I don't have any pieces. Can we convert to cushion padded back. Is it easy to do so or the slates will get in store.
