Here are two pictures showing each side of the RO for a window I am about to install on a dormer. How should I flash it properly. The window has an integral flange and the step flashing (seen slightly in the right side photo) is galvanized which I hope I can replace later in the fall and still have the flashing done right.
My plan:
- Use lead coated copper or terne coated copper at the height of the the sill to the 1xs and “apron” this flashing down over the shingles. (I should be able to keep this copper under the step to avoid contact with the galvanized)
- The sill, built up a bit, with a piece of 3/8″ bevel siding for drainage. will be flashed with bituminous tape and lapped over the metal flashing.
- BM tape on the head/sides per Pella instructions lapped over metal sheathing flashing
My questions:
- Is it correct?
- If it is or isn’t, can the step be done later and still be correct?
- Is the bottom flange nailed through with daps of sealant?
Help and thank you for your time,
Mike
