Ok I have layed some block myself (I don’t claim to be a mason) but more brick than anything…
And I need to teach about 10 guys (who all have pretty good carpentry skills) how to lay block for a misions trip we are taking to Peru this summer… So I’m wondering if anyone knows of a good book or VIdeo about the subject.
I’m really not worried about the basics of layout and laying straight walls, I’m wanting more info on details like headers, lintels, reincforcing and pouring cavities, ect.
Thanks, Jason

there a book by taunton press, of course. at your local big box store.
To pass on the skills in such a hurry it would be best for a mason to do the teaching. Can you find one to volunteer to teach? Perhaps a retired one?
yeah i'm looking for one.....
But I will check into the taunton book however....but if i remember right it is all pretty basic stuff and not a lot of detail
When in doubt, get a bigger hammer!

That part of the job should be engineered. There are some general rules of thumb for masonary work, but depending the site, the loads, sizemic zones, wind zones, and building design, the ROTs don't always work.
Once the engineering is done, you guys should have no problems building to the required specs.
