Learn spanish? Seriously, it's something I've been considering. My drive time is about 7 minutes each way though.

After my last post yesterday, it came to me: Why not Google “how to” “audio books”? I came up with audible.com. Apparently these books can also be burned onto CD. I thought some of you guys might be interested in this.<!----><!----><!---->

The first thing I did was browse “Magazines & Newspapers” for Fine Homebuilding, The Journal of Light Construction, and Old House Journal. I did this by switching to a title search, and then typing in key words such as “homebuilding,” “building,” “construction,” and “house.” Not surprisingly, these magazines didn’t come up–we would probably already know about something like that. It’s to bad that nothing ells came up though.<!----><!---->

What I did see, however, was The Wall Street Journal on audio. This would probably be of interest to anyone running a business. I know I spend enough time reading about building to spend time reading a business magazine or newspaper, it would cut into my book reading time.<!----><!---->

While most construction books and magazines are geared toward visual learning, radio programs are by nature designed for the spoken word. While a search for “Faith Middleton” and “Money Pit” (radio shows advertised in FHB) also proved unfruitful, those who are mechanically inclined may be pleased to know that I did stumble upon Car Talk when browsing “Radio & TV.”<!----><!---->

Both The Faith Middleton Show and The Money Pit radio show can be listened to online after they’ve aired. It seems that at least The Money Pit can also be downloaded, although I’m not quite sure if I could burn it onto a CD.<!----><!---->

I admit reluctantly, that I’ve never burned a CD before, however it does seems like the best method to use. I don’t want downloads of audio books loading down my hard drive, and I don’t want to listen to them on my computer. If downloading them onto a portable MP3 player would mean I have to listen to it on the same device, I don’t think I’d be satisfied with its sound quality while driving. My truck’s stereo does play MP3’s and CD’s, but if CD’s are the only ones I can burn off audible.com, I think that they would be the most pleasurable to listen to.<!----><!---->

While Audible claims to have 14156 radio and TV titles, I haven’t found any way to access them besides searching for each program individually. If you ever stumble upon a building how-to radio program, book, or magazine on audible.com, please let me know.<!----><!---->-T
You could burn it to a CD, given the proper software. Better still is to get an MP3 device and just load it onto that. You can get an adapter to play the thing through your car radio.
