Good Day
I recently rebuilt a wooden front porch and replaced many of the existed fir deck boards with mahaghony. The old decking was painted gray, so of course I have to paint the mahaghony. Then I found out that mahaghony doesn’t take paint well, but what exactly is the problem. Can I prep the surface with primer and then paint in solid color?

M i a very hard and oily wod that must be sealed and primed with paint especially for tropicals. In addition, there are several woods masquerading as M that really are not true Honduran mohagany, but a Pacific nearsighted imitation.
BTW, Fir doesn't take paint very well either.

Thanks for your reply. Any specific product recommendations for sealing and prepping mahaghony?
