Hello, Breaktimers. My name is Mark Coleman and I’m part of the Web Team here at Taunton New Media. We have received numerous requests recently about adding photos to discussions. I’m going to provide a basic description of how to post photos, but I’d also like to start a discussion about posting photos. Hopefully, this feedback will help me to post a more detailed set of instructions sometime in the very near future.
There are two ways to attach images to a thread. The first is this: Create your new discussion, or select the thread you want to add to. Then, enter all the text. When this is done, click on the “browse” button (located below the box where you entered the text) to navigate to the location of the photo (this should be your computer’s hard drive or desktop). Select the photo. The image will then be included as an attachment to your post.
The second way to post photos works for those of you who have web sites. You can simply provide a link to your image within the text of your message. This way, you do not have to upload the image to our server. To do this, first determine the location of the image on your server. For example, if your kept your images in a folder titled “graphics” on your web site, the link to your image would be:
http://www.mysite.com/graphics/myphoto.jpg
To insert the photo into your text, you’ll need to create an html tag. It’s fairly straightforward. For the example above the html tag would look like this:
<img src=”http://www.mysite.com/graphics/myphoto.jpg”>
So if you wanted to type up a message (like the one below), you would enter it as follows:
Hey everyone,
Check out the piece of furniture that I made today. It took me only 150 hours to
complete and I will be able to sell it for $150,000. Not bad for a couple week’s work.
<img src=”http://www.joewoodworker.com/images/table.jpg”>
In this example, the photo would be right there as part of your post, but the photo would not have to be uploaded to our server.
