I am using a water based dye to stain red oak and soft maple trim. I’ve noticed that direct sunlight causes rapid fading (as comapred to traditional pigment stained wood). Is there anything that can be done to dyed wood to prevent the fade?

Keep it in the dark, or use a UV blocking top coat such as a Spar Varnish.
