hello, i was hoping somebody could tell me how to patch a hole in my chimney’s clay flue where the old owner apparently had vented a wood stove, and then had removed the wood stove and only covered the hole in the chimney with a piece of galvanized tin. the flue will only be used for the oil burner. thanks in advance for any info…

Grout a piece of stainless steel sheeting over it with fire clay, then cover the stainless with 1/2" or more of fire clay and finish off with masonry to match original.
