I am traveling and seeing a lot of use of Huber’s new OSB roof and wall sheathing, the kind that goes up and then has its seams taped with their tape product.
I am seeing it used in residential, but most jobs have been commercial.
What’s going on? Are any of you folks using this new system, which eliminates use of felt, housewrap, new roofing underlayments like RoofTopGuard, etc.?

we have a local supplier that pushes Huber's products hard.
so, we just bought the tape gun and did our first few jobs with it a couple of weeks ago. i will have to check with the guys to see what they thought and get back to you.
our roofer is fussy about felt installation. we generally used to run 30# on all jobs and then cap nail it at every rafter. the roofer didn't like this because he said it still would pucker if it sat for any length of time before he shingled it. we ended up putting tarps on the jobs until he got there.
basically, tarps are a pain, so we decided to try Huber's Zip.
the sheathing is about the same cost as 1/2" cdx fir which is what we use most of the time. the system eliminates the need for clips, even on 24" centers, which is a blessing. it is only available in 7/16" thickness, at least for now.
the tape is pricey, but less costly than felt, and you can tape faster than you can felt.
so the bottom line is that is does cost a little less to install than felt.

I've seen it on one house. Wall sheathing only. The builder said it cost 30% more than osb and Tyvek.
The framer said the stuff varied in thickness, and showed me a sheet that was sitting on top of a lift, and had seen some weather. One end was a fat 5/8". Hope it doesn't go at a window or door opening. He was also concerned about staples breaking the skin...
The tape sticks lke crazy...makes pre-modeling a special challenge...
Huber will get it down, though, IMO Advantec sub-flooring is the best stuff out there.

God says, "Out on Highway 61."
