I built this garage addition 6 yrs. ago and and didn’t think about where the water was going to go. Rotted out two pieces of siding. I removed the siding and bent some coil stock to replace it. OK or not?

I'm thinking that is working but you still need to put step flashing there where I see bare plywood?
and shouldn't there be step flashing all the way up under that 1/2 round esque siding
I'd also be thinking about some metal in the roof to shed water away from wall & that beautiful chimney
No bare ply wood showing. The brown coil stock goes under the upper piece of siding 6". And over the lower new piece of siding. The silver piece on right of picture is step flashing. I could add a diverter to direct away from chimney.http://dallasmartin.shutterfly.com
I think you've solved it from what I can tell from the photos.

I hope so. Awkward situation and I didn't think it through.http://dallasmartin.shutterfly.com
Looks like a good fix from here. :-) How about adding a gutter with a bead of silicone chalk between the end cap and the wall? Just so the run off doesn't find another way to cause problems.
I am afraid even a gutter open on one end would fill with leaves. Like a forest around that house and the owner won't keep it clean. Maybe one with a leaf guard. It rained pretty hard this morning and it didn't appear to be hitting the chimney. Dallashttp://dallasmartin.shutterfly.com
I think you can still get a kick-out flashing in there. Folds up pretty easily with a rubber hammer and a couple of 2x6 scraps. m------------------

Looks like a good option for me. A gutter would be easy but may not look the best.http://dallasmartin.shutterfly.com
Maybe one with a leaf guard.
Have you seen the type of retrofit leaf guard that has a solid cover? It's installed under the second course of shingles I believe. It has a slightly rough finish which helps the water to maintain a vacuum grip as it runs around the curved leading edge, more than ninety degrees, before falling off into the gutter. The engineering is very cool because nothing can get into the gutter but water and no water runs or drips off the leading edge.
I saw a brief description of it during an installation on a home improvement show. I'll be looking for it the next time I need a gutter system.
OK. I'm gonna be the odd man out here. Although you may have cured the problem with the siding, (tho' I'm not so sure, since it's pretty much in contact with the roofing w/o step flashing and/or a reveal) I'd still be uncomfortable dumping water down beside that chimley. I'd put a kicker there, or maybe even a gutter along that section.

Everything fits, until you put glue on it.
The picture doesn't show it to well but there is 3/4'' between siding and roofing and standing on the ladder I could see the step flashing all the way up to peak.
I may try to come up with some kind of diverter or gutter up there.http://dallasmartin.shutterfly.com
How about some kind of cricket between the drip edge and the chimley so water is diverted away from that corner?Mike HennessyPittsburgh, PAEverything fits, until you put glue on it.

Personally I prefer to see 2" clear above the roof.

I would be willing to compromise but IMHO 2" is too much. Dallashttp://dallasmartin.shutterfly.com
that's exactly what I would have done
I vote for a small cricket to really make the situation better, but your solution with monitoring over the years should work fine.

I would definitely get some kind of kick-out in there to get the run-off away from the wall and chimney. I respect a man who admits his mistakes instead of pretending he doesn't make any.
