I removed a door between two bedrooms in a big remodel project . I am going to have to patch in the base on both sides . It is a house built in 1902 wide base . i can use a 1×6 for the bottom i will need to add a base cap and the profile is funky not a standard profile . I can’t find any thing close . I guess I might have to have something milled , but where and about how much .Any links ?
Thanks

*Don't forget the oild trick of using some matching molding from a closet, use that in the rooms and some off the shelf buildup in the closet.Bob
*Ricks - Basecap, even a funky one, shouldn't be too hard to match for a couple of short pieces. You might be able to find a stock profile if you look in the right places. Can you include an accurate sketch in a post (use a profile gauge or trace the end)?Bob's idea of finding a piece in a closet, etc. is a good one, if closets are trimmed out.
*Salvage houses are one idea. If it's paint grade, there are a number of reproduction moulding companies that sell older style mouldings.Would a couple of large plinth blocks work? You can make fairly involved plinths easily with a router table. Also, you can sometimes combine stock mouldings and/or add pieces of flat stock to get what you want, or pretty close. If you do have them custom milled, have them make a bunch of extras, since it's the set-up charge that costs the most, rather than the material itself. Then you'll have them next time, and if you sell the place, the next owners will have options. The closet idea is a good place to start too...MD
*Here in Portland OR i go to McKoy Stair and Millwork, Rejuvenation Inc, and Hippo Hardware.
*Here in Cleveland it is fairly easy to find old moldings to match at a number of salvage yards and antique dealers who deal with architectural components.Pete Draganic
