Hi Folks,
I was asked to install something that will stop ice from sliding down a long valley (about 40′) and tearing the eavestroughs off. I haven’t seen anything I liked the look of yet, and snow’s falling. This guy is a good client, and I need to get something in place before the end of next week, because I’ll be gone for a few weeks after that. Does anyone have any ideas on “valley ice fences”? Thanks!
Ross

Check with a metal roof installer or supplier. I have seen "something" installed every other panel about 2 ft. up from the edge which I assumed has something to do with sliding ice or snow. best of luck.
*Have you considered remounting the eavestroughs (we call them gutters in Illinois) lower on the fascia so the slide goes over them without dragging them down? A "gutter helmet" system may also be a solution. If your desire is to stop the slide, what about snow guards? You don't mention what type of roof material. (standing seam, slate, asphalt shingle, etc.)Snow fences for roofs aren't cheap. Go to http://www.sweets.com, Division 7, Section 07710 for snow guards, fences and gutter covers. You should find what you need here.EB
*Thanks Eric, information overload, I forgot to check Sweets. I found a great little product, and considering that this is going on the roof of a place that is somewhat of a new-age retreat, the Sno Gems seemed very appropriate (sort of like crystals!). We may have to wait until warmer weather to stick them on though, still about minus 30 here! Check them out at http://www.sweets.com/index/profile.htm?id=4204&pid=13007
