I’m trying to finalize my building plans before it goes to the town for approval and permit. The plans have been finished by the architect and are going to the structural engineer next. I will be meeting with him probably in a couple of weeks to go over things. <!—-><!—->

The home will be in <!—-><!—->Southeast CT<!—-> approx 7/10th of mile from long island sound. It is approx 3,800 sq ft. It will be 2×6 construction 16†on center, OSB sheathing, plywood sheathing on garage walls and front entrance area where stone will be the finished siding. <!—->

Right now I believe the standard Tyvek is called out and then overall siding will be Hardi-Plank. <!—->

I am looking into have Icynene as my insulation, and air moisture barrier system. Has anyone had<!—->

Excellent choice of insulation in my experience. Tyveck with vertical striations lets water weep to the outside if space allowed for this. Hardiboard ( and plank) is great as it doesn't move, assorb water. wick water, and holds paint.
Thanks
either the icy or a urethene like corbond will do far better than any other insulation you can find - and you could build with 2x4 and save a bundle on the framing lumber

Thanks
I suggested the 2x4 framing after a talk with a builder friend of mine, but the structural engineer is strongly suggesting the the 2x6 for the size of the home, the weight, and the complex roof structure, he said i would regret it done the road and since the other homes in the neighborhood are 2x6 i would lose on resale, should that occur
I see good points there. I don't quarrel with structural engineers

Hi,
Is icynene safe health-wise? Are there any specs or health studies done on it on the web? Does it out-gas anything harmful? I always get an uneasy feeling from compounds that have an "-ene" attached to their spelling. Benzene comes to mind.
Anybody who is uneasy about it, should use something else. No sense sleeping warm if you can't get to sleep for worrying about it all night.i think it's as safe as anything else we use.

If you go to the websites for the various types of foam some make a big deal about what their product does and does not offgas.

It sounds like you are trying to get a site built Insulspan house. Why not just let Insulspan panelize it for you and forget all the site built headaches.
