I will be improving a deck over living area situation for my in-laws and adding on a freestanding deck to it. The question is, other than lattice, does anybody have any creative ideas for camaflouging the space under the new deck? Something that installs around the perimeter? One idea is a simple trellis between the posts and train some vines up it along with bushes/flower beds in front of that. Deck will be between 5-7′ above grade around its perimeter. The in-laws are o.k. with the vine/bush idea but are not blown away by it and wondered what else people might be doing other than lattice.

I'm about to do my front porch with azek. the opening is about 18" I'm just going to build 1x4 frames, and use 1x12's on the back. Then maybe some small detail moulding in the edges of the 1x4's. recessed panel wainscoting basically. I thought about trying to save some money and using 1/2" mdo for the panels, but I'm not going to take my chances. My original thought was to do the frames and use 1x6 v groove behind the frames. Then when I did my soffits I had tons of scraps of triple three beaded soffit that I was going to use instead. But I got rid of it, and now I"m back to the azek. I'd offer to post pictures when I'm done, but the way thing get done around my house, you'll be done your project first. Hell, you'll probably be retired first.
