Small back yard, two large condensing units agianst the lot line in the middle of the back yard, deck 4′ high looking right down on units. I was thinking of building a three sided fence with lattice panels around the units. Any other creative ideas? I don’t want to surround it with large plantings because the yard is too small.

Plantings are a bad idea anyway as they tend to restrict airflow. Yours is the solution I generally fall to.

I recently built a two sided screen to hide a LP gas take to comply with the restrictions of the association in which the lady lived. Single 4x4 post set in concrete, framed with PT lumber, sheathed and sided with cedar claps and trim to blend in with the contruction materials and details of the town house. Minimum of 6" gap on bottom to allow recirculation in the event of a gas leak. Sounds like a design similar may fit your needs.
