Doing a kitchen remodel and customer wants to install an indoor gas grill in center island of kitchen. Never done it before, just wondering about venting requirements, etc. Any thoughts? Thanks

I have seen it in some pro-line ranges, you just need to find an appliance that's properly rated for the use. There are down-draft fans / 'hoods' available for that exact scenario, but I can't speak to their efficacy. Presumably the customer has a model in mind, why not check out the factory's site and find out their recommendations.

If they plan to really grill with it, as in incinerate big hunks of meat, they need a big fan to suck up all that smoke. Most people don't like the downdraft models, so you may be looking at a big hood/hole in the ceiling above the island. You might post a query at Cooks Talk as I think this issue has been addressed there. For our recent new kitchen, we considered a cooktop in the island, but the venting was an insurmountable problem.
Probably all you need, if what is desired is a stock appliance, is a gas line and electrical.
Now, if this is slab on grade, then getting that iron pipe to the appliance will be less-than fun (but the trench may be handy for the electrical conduit).
If it's a downdraft unit (and not s-o-g) the trick will be figuring out how to get the duct outside, as Murphy will have the joists go the wrong way, or he'll insist that you will have code issues with doors and/or windows at the handiest point to go through the wall.
It's probably an excellent idea to run a conduit for potential 220 (if the cooktop does not use it) so that a future remodeler can put a range in, instead.
Don't forget to plan for the regular convenience outlets the island will need, too. It can be helpful to rent the ear of a good local electrician, just in case your jurisdiction might have BI that interpet that GFI if 6' of sink as a radius.
For cooking, I rather like a cooktop in an island. You can set persons hanging out in the kitchen gabbing to stirring things to keep them out from underfoot (which is vert nice while making rouxes <G>).
