I screened in my porch, maybe 15 years ago, and now I need to redo it. Last time I used fiberglass, and in the first year numerous holes appeared, upto about 1/2″ dia up toward the tops of the screens. I’ve had no new ones since then. This must have been from some kind of insects. Anyhow, I’m leery of using fiberglass to rescreen. Anyone have this kind of problem? For what its worth I’m in northwest Illinois.

You must have some big insects in Illinois.
(Could have been birds. Or the screen was improperly installed and overstressed at the top. Or the screen was defective.)
I recall one summer here in Nebraska that grasshoppers ate holes in our fiberglass screens. I'm told that in the "dirty thirties" grasshoppers ate clothes off the clotheslines. Any kind of metal screen should be okay. If they chew through that a sacrifice to the Gods may be necessary ;)
Grasshoppers ate holes through my dehydrator racks screened with FG screen to get at what was drying.
I've read they won't eat through aluminum screen, but i haven't tempted them.
