install cedar shakes on box window
hi.
I have a box (rectangular bay) window that I want to roof in with cedar shakes. the problem is : how do I vent it? Needs air circulation doesn’t it. If I box in all sides of the roof area, how does air circulate.
thanks. billbuild

I doubt it is an issue. I've not seen or vented any bays or boxes I have worked on, they are both small and well sealed.

Shakes are so non-uniform they should get plenty of ventilation as it is. Just make sure none of the joints line up so no water gets in and shouldn't be a problem. However, if you're going to seal them (stain, paint, whatever) they should be sealed on all sides before installing. Just dip them in the sealer and spread them out to dry.
