I’m planning on installing a CI drop-in tub into a 3-wall alcove and have a question: I need it to lift it up a few inches off the slab floor (to mate to drain plumbing) so do I support it on blocks or on ledger boards on 3 sides plus a small ledge/face on the front? I know to install 30# paper on the framing first, then backer board once the tub is in place, but actually getting it in place is where I’m stuck.

I'd prefer cast iron, water, and two adults to be supported by the floor assembly. If you hang that much weight on the walls it could cause problems down the road. Build up your support platform as required. Still use the ledgers on the walls if able for added stability.
It may be obvious, but have the load transfer across as many joists as possible. What I'm trying to say, is don't throw it up on a couple of 2-bys laid parallel to the joists. Try to run them perpendicular to the joists.
