I am looking to install chair rail in a room with old plaster and lath walls. What is the best way to attach the trim without destroying the plaster? I think just construction adhesive will not be sufficient, but for the sake of ease of installation really don’t want to use plastic anchors and finish screws.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A stud-finder, a bead of adhesive, and a pnuematic finish nail gun.
*You can predrill and nail with finishing nails. A nailer is nice, but isn't necessary. Nailing without predrilling sometimes cracks the plaster.
*And, if you need to suck the rail tight between studs, just angle the nails for better bite. For added grip, X angle two at each location. The plaster and lath will usually provide enough grip till the adhesive sets up. For what it's worth....the glue(construction adhesive) will hold more than the nails, once it's set up. You could just glue, then cross brace from the oposite wall and it'll never come down either. Jeff
*shoot it!!!!!!!!!!!
