Installing dutch doors w/ straps and drive pintels
Has anyone ever installed dutch doors using drive pintels and strap hinges? Having a very hard time keeping the two doors align as they open. They spread at the latch side when they are 90 degrees from the jamb but then close until they bind as you continue to open them. We’ve tried everything we can think of but there are so many variables, how far the pintels are driven into the frame in relation to one another, are the pintels twisted one way or the other, the slop between the pintel and the strap, how the strap sits on the pintel, etc….. I’m about ready to say uncle. any one with any tips would be greatly appreciated. thanks. noah

That type of hinge is not suited to close work. I would suggest you say uncle and find a better type hinge.
Just what type of hinge would depend on a better description of the job. Like barn door, house door, etc.
Dunno what happened to my post, but it said essentially the same thing. In addition to good quality (and preferably adjustable) hinges you need to have the hinge side jamb be exceptionally stiff and firmly anchored.
