I am about to replace the siding I removed when I put my addition on.
The addition changed the roof pitch to a 12/3 pitch (shallow for rochester NY 12/4 is considered the min). and created a valley ending near the corner of the house, so there’s the potential for water near the side of the house, as well as snow and ice piles.
So when doing the roof I used storm and ice shield 2′ up the wall of the house and step flashed the shingles.
When I install the J channel I am going to be putting a nail through the flashing and the shield, I know the shield is supposed to seal around the nail, but I just hate to add more holes through everything. Is there another way to attach the J channel or am I just being paranoid?
Thanks – Tim

Nail your J in as you normally would. If not it will be wavy as it shrinks and expands.
Cut a length of I&W, just over half the length of your J channel run. Then cut the length in half and drop the factory edge into the J-channel. Nail high all you are doing is a little counter flashing. When it gets warm it will adhere itself to the J. Wouldn't hurt to rub it, to help the bonding.
