Installing Pre-finished stair treads
Stair treads:
Just looking for some other alternative means of secuing pre-finished stair treads down. Currently I drill and counterbore for a 3/8″ plug after I use a #10 screw to secure the tread down to the stringer. This always leaves a hole that must be plugged and then stainend and finished to match the pre-finish color. I have also used a #8 trim head screw, which reduces the size of the hole to 1/4″.
If anyone has any advice or help please reply.
Thanks
Steve

Pocket screws and PL Premium from below . If the area is open below, much easier. If not open, still possible with a little thought and manuevering.

Thanks Calvin, yes Ive used pocket screws in the past, but this stairway is not open from below and the tread is only a 10-1/2" making it impossible to reach underneath.
The center row of screws will be covered by carpet, but the two outsice rows will be visibe.
Thanks
