My glass guy does this for me so inexpensively...You can build your frames and have him (your glass guy) install the screen...

*I did exactly as you are doing - I made my screens from 5/4 cedar. I cut a dado slot 1/4 inch wide, stretched my aluminum screen and used plastic spline material with the spline tool to roll the screen in. Sizing the spline is important - my hardware store had several differnt diameters and I made sure I had the diameter that created a tight closure. I have also seen wood splines and several different variations.
*MarkI read a tip in a DIY column (slaps for me for sure)about clamping the frame to a table or worbench at the middle and elevating the two ends (on a 2x4 for example) to make the length effectively shorter. . . stretch and secure the screen and then release the clamps. . . have yet to try it but it sounds plausible!!!
