Make sure your drain is 19-20" up from the finished floor that the pedestal will be standing on. Maybe someone else here will have a better height, but this seems to work well.
Make sure you have blocking behind the drywall. If you don't, cut out a piece just big enough to get in a 2X4 block and screw it into the studs. Mount the drain and P-trap hardware before putting the sink in place. Buy a pedestal sind drain wrench, under $10, if you can't get in to tighten the connector.
Don't get the cheapest sink as they will have poor access at the back to tighten the P trap. They also have a tendency to wobble.
