Hi I am a DIY, and will be installing about a 1000 SF of cedar lap siding. My experience over the years has been a few hundred square feet, all of wich was hand nailed. I have entered the pnuematic era and want to use an air nailer. Anyone have a recommendation? Second question. Has anyone had sucess using usning a narrow crown staples? I know it the recommended method is ring shank ss nails, bit it seems to me that staples would also work.

the staples...
aren't long enough...
won't hold as well..
will corrode..
will stain the siding...
the siding will lift...
given enough time it will fall on the ground too...
in some locales it would be a code violation..
and how are you gonna fill all thos mini holes

Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
I have and like the Bostitch gun, though the Hitachi was actually my first choice. Skip the staples and use SS ringshanks, then sleep well at night knowing you've done the best you can do.

I use a Makita AN611 coil siding nailer and 2-1/2" ringshank HDG nails in it. Works perfectly, never had a jam yet, nice depth of drive control.
Hand nail it - think how good you'll feel handling all those nice little SS ring shanks. I did a little of that last week, and I just felt purty!

regardless which gun or hand nailing ( I'm a hand guy) be absolutely sure to control depth of drive. cedar splits very easily and if the head is buried,, the split has been begun already. Only a mater of time 'till it falls off.

I hope you're hand nailing maze nails.
Seeing the other ways, it's the only way to go..
