1950’s brick ranch in Atlanta. No insulation in walls. Tar/building paper over studs on exterior. Drywall on interior. Plan to insulate floor over crawlspace and cathedral ceiling (when roof gets replaced). Wish to do it myself. Rental house to be sold in 5 years.
Big box stores rent machines to blow insulation. None could answer my question if this material is intended for horizontal (ceilings) only or could be used in wall cavities?
I can open up the top 1′ of wall at the interior to access cavities.
What type of insulation?
Can I do it myself?
I have searched the archives for an answer. Nothing specific.
Thanx
Larry

Cellulose is generally a good choice for such jobs. It can be blown into walls or used as loose fill above a ceiling. Be careful to maintain good attic ventillation.
