I have noticed that i am losing alot of heat around my masonry chimney. (snow melt) I know you have to stay 2″ away from the chimney, but what can be done?
I have heard that sheet metal can be used, but not sure on the details of how to attach it.
Can anyone direct me to litature on how this is done?

Wooden framing must be 2" from a masonry chimney. Other wood (such as subfloor) can be within 1". Non-flammable insulation (cellulose, mineral wool, perlite, vermiculite) can be in contact with the chimney.
There is required to be a firestop around the chimney at each floor and ceiling penetration, typically 1" mortar on metal flashing.

thanks for your help.
Keep flammable material 2" away from the chimney. I use a product that goes by any of the following 3 names against the chimney. Koawool,Cerawool, or Ferrwool. Jay
