Do a Google search for fomo foam. That is a DIY spray in foam that works well for that job.
Blue board is a vapor barrier, but I doubt it will cause any problems here. Get yourself the consumer level foam gun from http://www.efi.org, and have fun.

Hello Andy thank for the reply. I guess you & Iausch are advising me to use some kind of spray foam ??? Better stuff ? Don't mean to bore you guys, I'm just learning the ropes from you experienced guys with the back ground.
You can spray foam the entire area, which is a great approach. It's pricey, but probably the best way to go. If you're doing it yourself, though, the idea of fitting in blueboard is great. However, fitting it tightly enough to be effective is time consuming. If you cut the pieces smaller and fill in around the edges with expanding foam from a foam gun, you get a good job at a good speed.Andy

Get your insulators to spray 2 inches of foam. great insulation and a good vapour barrier in one
One of the other threads had a link to TigerFoam, you may want to look at that. I am doing the same thing and working a band joist can be very time consuming, so I am opting for the foam method. Then I know I will have a sure seal.
The reason it is best to spray the faom in place is that you get such a good dseal that way.
An important part of insulating the whole house is controling infiltration. You heating devices, vents, etc, will allow some air to exit higher up. That air exiting will create negative pressure that will try to draw cold outside air in at the base - usually at the sill and joints there. Controling that infilt4raion will slow the number of air volumn excahnges your house goes through in a day
So it is not simply a matter of insulating against radiant heat loss.
if you can't do the Fomo or tigerspray and don't have a local guy dfoing it, then the foam board is fine ( especially if you have scraps you can cut downinstead of wasting anyway from another part of the house. Just use a few cans of spray foam to seal them around the edges and to seal well at the sill, ears, beard, eyebrows etc ...
;)

Fomo foam AKA HAndi-Foam is available from http://www.farmtek.com
I purchased 2 of the larger 20lb? containers with hose and nozzle..it was 116.00 each last summer. It goes pretty far. You'd be happy with the smaller container probably, and line up as much as possible to do while you are at it..once opened, about 30 days is all it will keep.
Insert a ringshank PANELING nail in the nozzle, it is a perfect fit...then a few wraps of ele. tape. to seal out the air.
They also sell the 2 part spray mix, but I had great results with fitting board insul and foaming the edges in my log spaces prior to finish sealing.
