For “standard” substitute “bare minimum effort you can sneak past the customer.” You’ll be better off in the long run, in terms of job satisfaction and referrals, if you do what you know is right. Describe your process to the customer in proposals and the reasons for it, perhaps on a separate sheet of “boilerplate” to go with the proposal. The customer will see the distinction between you and the competitors.
