I am building a new cabin in northern AZ and we can get cold and wet. the locals say to vent the perimeter of the crawlspace and to not insulate the floor. this seems crazy as they are hoping the heat loss will keep the pipes from freezing, but the heat is hard to keep in with lots of vents. You also get cold feet. seems like somthing better is out there, help!

crawl spaces ? i love to insulate the walls and not insulate the floors.. especially if you have heat ducts in the crawl
heat in the crawl and plumbing also. I want to spay foam insulation. what about moisture barrier in the dirt?
yes .... 6 mil poly on the dirt... with a yard of sand to keep it down
then
i'd use EPS on the walls treated with borates ( PerformGuard )
google on "R-Control " for a plant near you
you can shoot some furring strips thru the EPS with a ramset to hold them in placeMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
still need vents?
no.. sealed crawl space.. if your code requires vents, install something that can be sealed after the inspectionMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
