I am building a home and plan to use scissor trusses for the roof to obtain Cathedral ceiling. What’s the best way to insulate the roof? I plan to have a ridge vent with eve venting. Do I still need a box vent in gable area? Should I use blown in insulation or backed fiberglass? the cabin is small 20×30 and I plan a 8/12 pitch.

In general, you need to provide required ventilation area dictated by the size of the roof and how tight you make the rest of the structure.
using ridge and eve venting in the suggested net area would relieve you of the need for gable vents.
