I have a colonial style house without any soffets. Attic venting is through gable-end vents. I am planning to add insulation to the attic space. Do I need to provide an air space at the roof sheathing, such as using styrofoam baffles, or can I simply allow the insulation to contact the sheathing. If the insulation contacts the sheathing, will this then promote ice damming conditions? Thanks.
