Which is a good company for a one guy(for now)and family outfit? Down the line maybe a few more guy’s and their families, but that’s wishful thinkin’ for now. I’ll try the obvious of course (bluish cross, healthy partners) but I’d like to hear about the companies that have been proven to care for the little guy! (and his little guys);>

I found that since I sorta semi-retired and with my age and all I can't afford any health insurance period....for myself.....add family etc. and I'll bet your looking at a big chunk of change regardless of where you apply.
A lot of guys are hooked into their wife's health plan.
*Hey Jonny Boy,I've jumped around to a couple of insurance companies for the past 7 years while self employed. The rates always increase over time so I'm currently on my third insurer. This time I'm doing an MSA (Medical Savings Account). You are essentially self insured for little stuff. You have an ultra high deductible (My wife and I's is $5,000) but in turn pay less than $100/month. You then have a before tax account that you put money into each month (and earn 5%interest). You pay all your medical expenses out of this account up until you hit your deductible which of course only happens in some sort of major injury. When you retire any money in the account is TAX FREE!!. It's a pretty good for us self-employed types who are reasonable healthy. I think we spent $300 last year on yearly checkups, dental, and eye check up. Not to bad and if something catastrophic happens, the insurer kicks in. Let me know if you have more specific questions.
*My wife has a business and I work for her.Her business pays all employee (me) and their family's (her) health related expense. This makes the health care cost pretax dollars (the best kind) deductable as a business expense. She has never turned down a claim.See your CPA. They know all of the details and tax consequences of different health care plans.
*I've looked for MSA's in Maine and can't find one.
*Hey Piffin,I don't know about maine specifically, I'm in GA, but go to msapage.org and you should find anything you need. Mine is through goldenrule.com. Hope that helps. It really is a good way to do it and I like being in control. Noone to get approval from for the first $5,000.
*That would be nice to go through my wife, but she's depending on me, so I'll have to keep lookin'. That MSA sounds REAL good, I've often thought about something like that for auto ins., but you need a 100grand bond to do that in MN. I will definately check out that website! Good thing I've got to be bleeding like mad before I go down anyway!
*Jonny, give http://quotesmith.com a look. They list prices for insurance from different companies. For info on the different types of insurance available, try the Insurance Information Institute at http://www.iii.org .
*Quotesmith! Thank you. Thats the one I was trying to remember.
