I found this outlet in a Motel bathroom. It was near the floor along side the toilet. I can’t imagine what that cord was for…but they did a great job cutting the hole in the cover….and at least it’s GFI protected.

Few people understand it. Nobody agrees what it is, how to learn about it, or who's responsible for it. It has never been more important

Do you have to plug in an extension cord to make the outlet work?
Didn't try it...the cord part would not move.
Follow up question: What were you doing with your head down there?
Figured that was coming...never left my feet...
Ward,
If you wet your hands, then grabbed the left blade with one hand and the right blade with the other - and you're still here to post, then the outlet in your photos has an inlet - to something.

Isn't the little light in the middle of that male plug, on ?
Isn't the light on the female end??? There was no light on it.
When they first came out with the cords with lights in them, many of them had a light in the plug end, as well. So you could immediately tell if you were getting power. And there is definitely a light on, in the inside of that plug...I'm not worried, I'm curious...You are always welcome at Quittintime

Had some student electricians wire a school cabinet shop with drop down cords for the equipment. They put the male end on the live lines. Fortunately, it was noticed before they turned the juice on. Could have been a shocking experience.

The last time they were remodeling the hotel the power was off so the contractor brought up his portable generator. Seems OSHA was on the job and the contractor didn't have a GFCI on the generator so they quickly wired in the only GCFI available with a stub to connect to the extension cord from the generator. If you pull the cover off you'll find the line input disconnected from the GFCI.
