I’m installing French Doors in an interior opening. The doors are carpet cut for carpeting to run thru. I would like to install a slide bolt on the bottom, in addition to the one on top. Any suggestions on how to install a receiver for the slide bolt into the floor (carpet)? The bolt only extends about one inch and the door is about 1 1/4″ above unfinished floor. I would like to do this without a threshold. This is installed on a slab.

Know a plumber? Get a hard copper cap to fit the barrel bolt, and flare the top of the cap. Drill the slab and install the cap in epoxy with the top edge level to where the padding will be. Have the carpet guys bind the hole lined up over the cap (sometimes that's melt the edge, sometimes that's a reinforcement on the back--it varies by the carpet and the installer). Oh, and talk to the carpet guy early. Ideally you want the carpet stretched first, then set the hole. That means the carpet guys will have to restretch, but better knowing that going in than halfway through.
Having the cap level with the padding keeps some crud out, while not making a toe stubber (vac snagger, etc.) in the floor.
Can't take all the credit. One summer the boss' kid was "helping" and found the flaring tool. Couldn't hardly find anything unflared after that. Needed a way to fix a center-hinged interior french door with a hinged leaf--there's the "junk" box full of fittings, voilà.
great...another honey do....

¿Que? Only if it's somebody else's house--those pay . . . <g>
Ok, that might not fly (or you might, backards, in a generally lunar direction),
Gee, hon', wouldn't a nice wood floor look so much nicer?
Nope, now you have to work triple shifts for the floor.
Ok, how about French Pocket doors?, no bolts at all . . . Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
