Hello all
I’m finishing up my drywalling and now planning for interior wood trim (cove base, door/window casings and window jams).
Because its right on the Oregon coast, I’d like to do it all in 1/2″ and 3/4″ Phillipine Mahogany, but a few calls to local suppliers is quickly disabusing me of this idea. Jeeeze…I have to tell the suppliers that I’m NOT looking for diamond-studded mahogany…anyway…
…I’m rethinking this, and have come up with this idea: A Faux Mahogany, using ripped 4X8 sheets of 1/2″ and 3/4″ MDF, using either mahogany colored paint, or…perhaps….faux grained using two mahogany colors.
Anybody ever done such a thing? Any and all details or directing me towards a good how-to book will be much appreciated.

Why not use mahog. plywood and edge banding. Works real well, and you can add solid wood backbanding profiles. A lot less dusty too.

if you can do it with 8 foot lenths luaun will match the grain of mahogany. its up to you to tone it up to match the color
