Intermixing Faced and Un-Faced Batts
I am doing a project out of cash flow and the store that is having the sale in insulation only has R38 kraft faced. I am doing a conventionally framed cathedral ceiling. The vent channels are all in place and I am half finished with unfaced.
Does it matter that SOME of the stuff already up there is faced if I cover it all with a poly barrier in the end? I wouldn’t thing so, but it never hurts to ask. . .

There are reasons not to have a double vb.
Install the faced, then slash the facing with a utility knife. There goes the vb.
Then poly the whole shebang.
Never thought of that, but it makes sense. I could see condensation could potentially build up between the two VB's; but your remedy would help alleviate that.
I thought this question was going to go unanswered. Thanks for your input.Steelkilt Lives!
You would have gotten more action had you worded it as:
"A Democrat told me I could mix faced an unfaced insulation, then poly the whole house resulting in a double vapor barrier in some areas. A Republican told me that the Democrat was wrong. Can anyone help resolve this?"
Glad to have helped, and I hope your project turns out well..
