I have been thinking through different options to reduce what seems to be higher frequency noise from a nearby interstate bridge ~1/2 mile away. The house does have insulated windows which seem to help.
I have a gable vent that faces in that direction which would seems to be low hanging fruit by closing it off when I redo venting to be eave vents. Once inside the attic should I attempt to add a blanket (subject to code combustible restrictions) on the wall on which the gable vent is located?
Would I be well served putting something in front of the windows, like plexiglass, with a resilient adhesive attaching it to the frames? Of course then I would run into the egress requirements for bedrooms unless it could be kicked off easily. Would a wooden fence be better say a few feet in front of the window?
Any other thoughts like more insulation in the attic?

Had a customer once who lived near a busy highway. He had insulated glass windows in his house, and I installed triple track storm windows on each one facing the highway.
He had a Db meter and they did make a measurable difference .
