I would like to redo my deck, I’ve been reading up on ipe, and looked at pics. I’ve decided I would like to use ipe, I just wonder if I should do the frame out of ipe aswell. I really don’t need my deck to last until I’m 90, the reality is I’d likely have changed it by then. If I frame it with p.t. will this react with the ipe at all? I’ve worked with jatoba as a hardwood floor, It was hard and brittle, Is ipe the same sort of thing? Hopefully some one here has used it, I would like to find out where to buy it aswell if anyone knows of a place near toronto.

This is Ipe. The top deck and stairs have no finish. The boardwalk has some cheap finish the owner added--it didn't work. (Just like I told them!)
It is very hard, harder than Jatoba, and not as brittle. VERY heavy. PT is fine for the framing as long as you use stainless steel fasteners.

PT is fine. My supplier has 2x8 Ipe for $6.30/ft. it is unnecessary and would cost a fortune. Check out http://www.ironwoods.com for some good info.
