I recently replaced my roof. I tore out all of the soffit and facia because most of the boards were rotten. I put the new roof on before putting up new soffit and facia. I put on an aluminum drip edge leaving just enough room to slip in a 1×8 cedar facia board because that’s what was there originally.
In the meantime I’ve noticed that everyone puts up 2x stock first. Obviously, I’m not a builder. Its a large roof and doing this at this point would take me a long time. I want to do things right but I also want to move in as soon as possible because the trailer we’re renting next door is getting crowded for all of us.
Should I take the time to put up 2x backer boards or is the 1x cedar sufficient? We’re in PA. Thanks
Dan
